Peter is a Licensed Battlefield Guide with the Shenandoah Valley Battlefield Guides Association in Partnership with the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation National Historic District.

For more than eight years, we have guided individuals, small groups, and bus groups through the Valley. Our one, two, and three day experiences make time to explore the landscape, the strategy, and the people behind each campaign. We can take you to places that are difficult to discover on your own.

Peter Dalton

Peter Dalton is a Civil War historian, author, and professional battlefield guide specializing in the Shenandoah Valley campaigns of 1862 and 1864. His longstanding interest in Civil War history grew into historical scholarship and ten years of experience as a professional battlefield guide.

Peter has written extensively about Maineโ€™s contributions to the American Civil War. He is the author of a forthcoming book on Major General Hiram Berry, Throw Your Men into the Breach. His tours explain battlefield and campaign strategy while keeping the experiences of the combatants in focus.

Peter was the 2022 Volunteer of the Year for the Shenandoah Valley Battlefields Foundation.
